My 5-Minute Face Makeup Routine

When I hit the snooze button a few too many times, I break out this quick, polished look.

Waking up on time for school, work, or volunteering can be difficult for those of us who don't call ourselves "morning people." I, for one, am a night owl by nature, and I often set three alarms to make sure I get up on time.
For those mornings where you just can't get out of bed, creating your own five-minute face that you can practically do with your eyes closed is important.
I use the products below to look put-together in just five minutes. A little bit of makeup on your face when you feel less-than-prepared for the day can really change your entire outlook on life. Set your timer because here we go:

15 seconds: Moisturize

I like to use a lightweight, moisturizing lotion all over my face and neck before applying makeup so everything goes on smoothly. Makeup will cling to dry patches, so exfoliate, if necessary, and then apply a product like Simple's Hydrating Light Moisturizer.

15 seconds: Wait for moisturizer to sink in

If you apply your foundation right after you moisturize, it will mix with the lotion and give lighter coverage. I let the lotion sink into my skin and dry a bit before putting on my base.

45 seconds: Apply base

Next, I apply a foundation or BB cream. During the day, it is important to use SPF, so I choose something like the Pond's Luminous Finish BB+ Cream. This product also gives me a glowy look.
If your lotion has SPF or if it's nighttime, you can use the Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous foundation, which gives beautiful, medium coverage without looking cakey or heavy.
I would apply both of these with my fingers or a sponge for a five-minute look, but I would use a foundation buffer brush if I had more time.

30 seconds: Apply concealer

Maybelline makes great concealers, like the option below, FitMe, or the YouTube-famous Instant Age Rewind Undereye Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer.
I use the FitMe more often when I am in a rush because it looks great under the eyes and on blemishes around the face. It also blends out easily with your fingers.

15 seconds: Dust face with powder

Setting powder is crucial for a lasting makeup look. The Rimmel Stay Matte powder is a great option because it keeps you looking fresh-faced all day and prevents oil breakthrough.
I dust this powder under my eyes and on my T-zone to set foundation and concealer. Make sure you don't overdo it, or you could end up looking cakey or dry.

15 seconds: Apply blush

Blush is exactly what you need to wake up your face. A flush on your cheeks gives you life and adds some color. Choose the best shade for your skintone; I like Hard Candy's color range in their Baked Blush formula.
Smile and brush the blush onto the apples of your cheeks, then blend back toward your temples. I use a small powder brush for this step.

NYC's Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny is a cult favorite for beauty lovers because it is affordable, finely-milled (so it goes on smoothly), and adds warmth to the face.
I put this powder onto my temples, the sides of my nose, under my chin, and in the contour of my cheeks to add color and lightly contour. If I am in a hurry, I use the same brush that I use to do my blush to save time. I simply brush any excess powder on my wrist and clean the brush later.

15 seconds: Swipe on cream eyeshadow

Cream eyeshadow, like the Maybelline New York Color Tattoo in Barely Branded, is a great choice when you're in a hurry. I use this shade because it brightens up my eyes. It's a light color, so it's easy to swipe on with your finger when you're in a hurry because it does not require precision.

20 seconds: Blend bronzer into the crease

I use the NYC Sunny bronzer to add definition to not only my cheekbones, but my eyes, too! It is the perfect warm color for a transition between the cream eyeshadow and your brow bone.
Simply use a blending eyeshadow brush to sweep the bronzer into the crease of your eyelids above the cream shadow. Don't forget to blend out the edges.

1 minute: Fill in and shape eyebrows

Your eyebrows frame your eyes and add a lot to the look of your face. It is important that they are "on fleek," even when you don't have much time! That's why I dedicate the longest amount of time to my brows; they are the most important part of my look.
The NYX Micro Brow pencil is a dupe for the ever-popular Anastasia Brow Wiz. It has a thin, retractable, waxy pencil that keeps brows looking good all day long. It also has a spoolie on the end to brush your brow hairs into place.

30 seconds: Apply mascara

Like filling in my eyebrows, applying mascara is a must for me. No matter how much time I have, I will put on mascara, even if it means doing it in the car or on the bus.
I love the unique wand shape of the Rimmel Scandaleyes Rockin' Curves mascara. The broken-heart-shaped brush and thick bristles brush through my lashes to create curl and add volume and length. Just don't go overboard because this mascara can get a bit clumpy.
Scandaleyes Rockin' Curves, $5.59

10 seconds: Apply lip product

Finally, you have ten seconds remaining to use a lip product! I love lip crayons like the Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush balm because they are easy to apply. I make sure to choose light colors, such as nudes or pinks, so I can apply them quickly without worrying about a messy mistake.
