Marsala
is 2015's color of the year. Our favorite marsala lipsticks,
eyeshadows, and blushes are featured to help you rock this shade.
When Pantone released their 2015 color of the year, I was ecstatic to incorporate Marsala
into my makeup collection. While the color is beautiful for clothing,
accessories, and home décor, I can't wait to watch it become a major trend in cosmetics.
According to Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute,
"Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability. Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth."
"A Bold Pop of Neutral"
Every year, Sephora releases a collection in collaboration with Pantone featuring different products based on the color of the year.
I'm absolutely in love with the Marsala products that were recently
released, especially the Layering Lip Collection and Shimmering Cheek
Trio. This collection really showcases the versatility of Marsala, because whether matte or glossy, the shade works beautifully for eyes, lips, cheeks, and nails.
Product Info: 1. Matte Lip Cream, 2. Liquid Liner, 3. Cooling Multi Stick, 4. Mascara and Brow Highlighter, 5. Pro Angled Brush
Product Info: 1. Layering Lip Collection, 2. Shimmering Cheek Trio, 3. Multi-Finish Eye Palette
Marsala at the Drugstore
Although Sephora's new collection is incredible, most of the items
are a bit pricey for the average college student's budget. Below are
some awesome drugstore products that embody the warmth, earthiness, and versatility of Marsala without breaking the bank!
Cheeks
Out of all the potential makeup uses for Marsala, blush is definitely
what I'm most excited to experiment with this year. When applied to the
cheeks, this color is sure to give any complexion a beautiful and rosy
glow, which is especially appropriate for these last few months of
winter.
Product Info: 1. Covergirl (Iced Plum), 2. NYX (Bordeaux), 3. Revlon (Charmed)
Nails
Wearing Marsala on your nails instead of a traditional red gives a new
spin to a classic manicure. While it may not appear like a neutral
color at first glance, Marsala goes with just about anything, especially when paired with other more traditional neutrals.
As someone who wears an abundance of taupes, grays and blacks, I personally can't wait to get my hands fingers on this shade.
Product Info: 1. Essie (In Stitches), 2. Revlon (Queen of Hearts), 3. Sally Hanson Insta-Dry (Expresso), 4. Sally Hanson Salon Manicure (Ginger Zinger)
Eyes and Lips
Marsala lips were a major trend in the '90s, and celebs like Kylie
Jenner are quickly bringing it back on the red carpet. Using this color
for the eyes, however, is a bit more bold and novel.
I'm excited to experiment with this hue because it can either be subtle
or very dramatic, so it's great for easily transitioning your look from
day to night.
Product Info: 1. Maybelline Color Tattoo (Pomegranate Punk), 2. Maybelline Superstay Lip Color (Unlimited Raisin), 3. NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil (Rust), 4. NYX Eyeliner (Copper), 5. Rimmel Lip Gloss (Kiss Fatal)
